After the departure of former Woodstock Ambulance Service Coordinator Bill Mauldin, the Town Of Woodstock Selectboard and town manager have announced their decision to restructure the operation of the service. Fire Chief L.D 'Butch' Sutherland will assume overall responsibility for the Woodstock Ambulance Service, and a new Coordinator will be hired to report to the Fire Chief. Woodstock Ambulance Service provides EMS coverage to Woodstock, Bridgewater, Pomfret and parts of Plymouth, Barnard and Hartland. The service responds to approximately 650 calls a year and operates a fleet of three ambulances staffed by one full time service coordinator and volunteer members. Woodstock Ambulance is an Advanced Life Support (ALS) service.
Yeah...makes perfect sense to me...let's put a non-EMS guy in charge of EMS. You would NEVER see an EMS person put in charge of a fire service...fire service egos would never allow it.

In this case it does make sense. The Fire Chief has overall responsibility for the Ambulance Service, but day to day operations are still carried out by the Ambulance Coordinator (a full time position) who is an EMT-I and has many years in the service. The involvement of the Fire Service brings more leverage and experience in dealing with Town Hall and has already helped in getting things done.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading about ambulance equipment. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
